How Many Laser Hair Removal Sessions Do You Need?

If you’re thinking about laser hair removal, you’re probably wondering one thing before you get started:

How many laser hair removal sessions will I actually need?

For most patients at Pure Health Aesthetics & Wellness, we recommend approximately 6–8 laser hair removal sessions for your best results. However, the exact number can vary based on the area being treated, the amount and thickness of your hair, your hair color, skin tone, and how your body responds to treatment.

So why can’t we zap all that unwanted hair in one appointment?

It all comes down to how hair grows.

Why Do You Need Multiple Laser Hair Removal Sessions?

Here’s the tricky thing about your hair: it’s not all growing at the same time.

Hair moves through different stages of a growth cycle, and laser hair removal works best when the hair is in an active growth phase. At any given appointment, only a portion of the hairs in the treatment area are in the ideal stage to be targeted.

That’s why waiting between appointments isn’t wasted time. It’s actually part of the treatment process. Learn more in depth on the science of how laser hair removal works.

Think of each session as chipping away at the unwanted hair population. With each properly timed treatment, another group of actively growing hairs can be targeted.

How Far Apart Are Laser Hair Removal Sessions?

At Pure Health, treatments are generally scheduled about 6–8 weeks apart, depending on the area of the body.

Hair on the upper half of the body tends to cycle more quickly, so we may schedule those treatments around six weeks apart. Other areas with slower hair-growth cycles may be treated closer to eight weeks apart.

Spacing appointments correctly gives another group of hairs time to enter the growth phase where laser treatment can target them.

Translation: trying to rush your appointments doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll finish faster!

Why Do Some People Need 6 Sessions and Others Need 8?

This is where laser hair removal gets personal.

The amount and thickness of your hair can influence how many treatments you need. The contrast between your skin tone and hair color can also play a role.

Laser hair removal targets pigment, or melanin, in the hair. When there is a strong contrast between the hair and surrounding skin, it can be easier for the laser to selectively target the follicle.

Very light blonde, gray, white, and some red hair can be more challenging because there may be less pigment available for the laser to target.

That’s why your friend’s laser hair removal experience doesn’t necessarily predict yours.

What Areas Do We Treat Most Often?

Some of the most popular laser hair removal areas at Pure Health are:

  • Underarms

  • Bikini/Brazilian area

  • Legs

  • Face

And we understand why!

Imagine putting on a swimsuit without thinking, “Wait…when did I shave?” Or wearing a sleeveless top without worrying about your underarms.

As treatments progress, patients typically begin noticing less hair returning and thinner regrowth. You may also find yourself reaching for your razor less and less often.

Will I Be Permanently Hair-Free After 6–8 Sessions?

Everyone responds differently, so we don’t promise that every patient will be completely and permanently hair-free after a specific number of sessions.

Laser hair removal is better thought of as long-term hair reduction.

We also know stubborn hairs occasionally decide they didn’t get the memo.

That’s why Pure Health offers complimentary touch-up treatments for up to 18 months if needed.

Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

This is probably question #2 after, “How many sessions do I need?”

At Pure Health, we’ve invested in the Lutronic Clarity II, an advanced laser system that incorporates cooling technology during treatment.

Cooling is delivered to the skin around the laser pulse, helping make treatments much more comfortable. Sensitivity varies from person to person and by treatment area, but patients are often surprised by how manageable modern laser hair removal can be.

What Should I Avoid Between Laser Hair Removal Sessions?

Here’s an easy rule:

Don’t pull out the target!

During your treatment series, avoid waxing, plucking, and tweezing, because these methods remove hair from the follicle.

Shaving is different because it removes hair at the surface rather than pulling it out by the root.

We also recommend avoiding sun tanning and self-tanner around your treatments, since changes in skin pigmentation can affect how your laser treatment is safely planned.

So, Are 6–8 Laser Hair Removal Sessions Worth It?

We certainly think so.

Laser hair removal isn’t only about smoother skin. Think about how much time you’ve spent shaving—not to mention razors, shaving products, longer showers, razor bumps, and the last-minute realization that you forgot to shave before putting on your favorite outfit.

For many patients, the real luxury of laser hair removal is convenience.
